WTA - SINGLES: Indian Wells (USA), hard - 1/16-finals
Here I will be playing a win for a super-talented 17 year old American tennis player Cori Gauff (WTA 19). She surprised us at the tender age of 15!
In 2019, she made a wonderful result at Wimbledon when, as a young player and less known at the time, she made it through the qualification to the 1/8-finals! She won 6 matches there, leaving behind Venus Williams, Bolsova, Rybarikova, Hercog, Minnen and lost to Halep. In the 2019 season, she won her first WTA tournament in Linz, beating Ostapenko, Petkovic and Bertens. She confirmed that she is a really talented player a year later in 2020 when she reached 1/8-finals of the Australian open. She beat Venus, Cirstea and even Osaka. This year she has a 36/15 score and has again performed very well, winning Parma, reaching the quarterfinals of the French Open and before that the semifinals of Rome where she beat Barty, Sabalenko, Sakkari. As for the Hard Surface, she is 36/22 and beat Garcia here in the first match of the tournament.
Her opponent in this match will be a 23 year old Spanish tennis player Paula Badosa (WTA 27) when she has a 36/15 score this season and won Belgrade, reached the semifinals of Madrid or the quarterfinals of the French Open and those were the results on clay. In terms of results on hard surfaces, she reached the quarterfinals of the Olympics or the quarterfinals of Cinancinati. She was beaten by a weaker Gracheva at the US Open! Here at Indian Wells, she beat Yastremskaya in the first round. Hard surface has a career total of 101/52.
For me, a well playing Gauff who will definitely want to take advantage of the great atmosphere here at home and send the Spaniard home, the hard surface is closer to her.
My prediction: Cori Gauff to win @ 1.80 (bet365)
