WTA - SINGLES: Indian Wells (USA), hard - 1/32-finals
Elena Rybakina, only 22 years old, has been playing in good form in recent weeks and she showed that at the recent tournaments in Ostrava and Chicago. She is currently a nice 16th in the WTA rankings. Her current score this year is 32/20 (18/13 on hard court). She reached the quarterfinals at the FO, where she was beaten by Russian Pavlyuchenkova. At the Tokyo Olympics, she only took "the 4th place medal", losing to Ukraine's Svitolina. At the tournament in Ostrava she beat Kudermetova or Linette. Her most valuable scalp was probably a week ago, when she beat Bencic (10.), Bencic retired. But Rybakina won first set 6:4.
Putintseva is a 26 year old player, maybe a bit more experienced than her compatriot, but I don't think she has the same form as Rybakina. In the 1st round she battled the veteran Petkovic. Their actual score this year is 30/22 (13/11 on hard court). She is ranked 43rd in the WTA rankings. Putintseva has one notable success this year and that is winning a clay tournament in Budapest. She also recently played the final on home soil in Nur Sultan, which she failed to make and lost to the worse-ranked Van Uytvanck (55.).
