WTA - SINGLES: Moscow (Russia), hard (indoor) - 1/16-finals
Dayana Yastremska has played the very minimum number of matches this year and in a negative 5/9 score, but her opponents were very difficult and so it is no surprise that she lost. On the other hand I see a lot of positives, even after watching some of her matches, she took a set from for example US Open finalist Fernandez, Stephens, Kerber, in the last match the current finalist Badose. She played a very even match with Krejcikova. Yastremska is a very good player, she has it in her hand and the odds here are insanely exaggerated just because she's "not doing well" this year.
Kalinskaya is having perhaps the best month of her career, because in Indian Wells she made it from qualification to the 1/8-finals and beat Liu, Golubic or Sorribes, but I don't think they are such quality players compared to Yastremska. Here, on the other hand, he does not appear in a good light. Already in the first round of the qualification she had big problems with Kuzma, when she lost a set and yesterday she struggled again with Diatchenko. Maybe she is under the pressure of a busy schedule that she is not used to, and it is definitely evident here. She can make a lot of mistakes on her serve and with how many break points she has offered here, it can't be any different.
Yastremska for me. She played very well in Indian Wells and has a lot to build on, she will have plenty of strength because she has played very little. Kalinskaya hasn't looked good at all here and it could come back to haunt her.
