After a great start to the season, Wolfsburg's success stopped, resulting in the sacking of coach Mark van Bommel, who was replaced by Florian Kohfeld, who failed to prevent Werder Bremen's relegation a year ago. Wolfsburg was successful in the coaching reshuffle and after a league win at the strong Leverkusen, which moved them just outside the cup standings, they beat Salzburg in the Champions League and after four rounds remain in contention to qualify for the knockout stage. The ambitious team wants to get three more points against Augsburg, with whom they recorded their highest ever Bundesliga win in 2018/19 (8-1).
Augsburg beat Stuttgart last time, but that was only their second win of the season (2-3-5), so they remain in 16th place. They are not doing well on the opponents' pitches, where they have not won yet and two of their three defeats were by more than 2.5 goals. Augsburg will not get three points at the sixth attempt away and will leave the Volkswagen Arena as a loser after two 0-0 draws in a row.
