Ivory Coast have long been one of the best African national teams, ranked 53rd in the FIFA rankings, and their €280 million squad includes a number of well-known names: defenders Kossounou (Leverkusen), Bailly (Man. Utd), Aurier (Villareal), Boly (Wolves) or Diomande (Lyon), midfielders Kessie (Ac Milan), Sangaré (PSV) or Seri (Fulham) and strikers Pepe (Arsenal), Haller (Ajax), Cornet (Burnley) or Zaha (Crystal Palace). They are currently top of the table with a 3-1-0 score having drawn 0-0 in Mozambique, beaten Cameroon 2-1 at home and beat Malawi 2-1 at home and 3-0 away.
Mozambique is 122nd in the FIFA rankings, its squad is worth 9 million euros and a large part of that (7 million) is still made up of defender Mandava from Lille. They are currently last in the table with a 0-1-3 score. They started with a home draw with Coast but then lost 0-1 in Malawi, 1-3 in Cameroon and 0-1 at home to Cameroon.
Although the first match was a scoreless draw, Ivory Coast dominated the game. They held the ball 56% of the time, winning 10-3 on shots, including 4-0 on target.
Considering the result of the first game and also the situation in the group, the Elephants cannot underestimate anything. A win is simply a must.
My prediction: Asian Handicap: Ivory Coast -1.5 @ 1.75 (bet365)
