The battle of the youngest teams in the NHL is sure to be a spicy one. It's been three years since VGK entered the NHL and their entry has been impressive indeed. An interesting team led by the famed Fleury made it all the way to the finals, where they fell.
Seattle went about the team composition a little differently. Avoided big, long contracts. M. Giordano has the biggest caphit (6.75M for 1 year) and J. Schwartz (5.5M for 5 years) and P. Grubauer (5.9M for 5 years) have the longest higher contracts. These three + Eberle and Gourde should be the biggest movers in the Krakens' opening seasons. Otherwise, the top of the team is more likely to be years away.
Vegas has a different goal. Once again, it will be one of the favourites to take advantage of a strong squad and try to win the coveted Stanley Cup. The most talked about departure of Fleury in the summer, but the replacement in Lehner is more than enough! The additions of Dadonov, Patrick and Howden add depth and offensive power to the team's top three lines again.
As much as the Krakens will want to pull it out in the first game, I don't think Vegas will bite for their first win. On the contrary, Vegas will prove that they are serious about attacking Stanley Cup again and will win by more than 2 goals!
My prediction: Asian Handicap: Vegas Golden Knights -1.5 @ 1.90 (bet365)
