Vancouver is not having the best start to the season yet, as they are 13th in the Western Conference with 14 points and a 46-61 score after 18 games. The truth is that Vancouver currently has the third worst defense in the Western Conference after Seattle and Arizona.
Their opponent today, Chicago, is not much better. Chicago is right below Vancouver in the standings after they managed to collect 12 points in 17 games with a score of 39:58. Their defense is the fourth worst in the Western Conference.
It follows that tonight they will face some of the worst defenses in the league. But where I think the home team has a bit of an upper hand in today's game is the offensive line. If we take into account the guests, they practically play on one forward line of DeBrincat, Dach, Kane and possibly we can count the second one of Kubalik, Toews, Hagel, but it doesn't have the same quality as the first one. On the other hand, the home team has, in my opinion, 3 equally good lines, but they are not able to show their full potential yet. And it is from the second line that I chose today a player who definitely has that potential.
Conor Garland plays in a line with Miller and youngster Podkolzin. He also plays on the first power play line and his average TOI is at 16 minutes, which isn't great, but Conor is very good with that time. His stats only prove it, as he's managed 14 points on 5 goals and 9 assists in 18 games played so far. Garland arrived to Vancouver before the season from Arizona, where he scored 39 points in 49 games last season. If he continues the form he's currently in and doesn't get injured, this will be a season for him where he could score more than 50 points. Conor has been shooting well in his last two matches and scored a goal in both of them.
Anyway, I'm expecting an even game today and weak defence, so I expect goals to be scored and Garland to grab a point with a goal - he's certainly got the quality and form to do it.
My bet:
Conor Garland gets a point to the decision @ 1.75
