Colorado and Vancouver are currently next to each other in the Western Conference table, with Colorado having 13 points in 12 games so far with a 43:39 score and in 12th place, and Vancouver in 13th place but with 12 points and a 41:55 score after 16 games played.
Vancouver has 4 more games played and is still below Colorado in the standings. Vancouver currently has the third worst defense in the whole league, which is not a very flattering position and it has to be said that they concede quite a lot of goals in the games because of that. Even at the goalkeeper position it's not great when Demko and Halak are not performing as coach Green expected and demanded from them before the season.
Vancouver has won 5 out of 12 points at home so far, so they are currently more successful on their opponents' ice than at home. When we look at the overall goals conceded per game average, it doesn't look very flattering as the Canucks are averaging almost 3.5 goals per game so far. It's not great on offense either, with only 6 teams in the entire league scoring fewer goals.
On the other hand, Colorado is not where they were expected to be at the moment either. Many bettors and experts had Colorado as the winner of the Central Division, but their performances from the beginning of the season are very mixed and it's certainly primarily due to injuries, which don't allow Colorado to play at full strength together. But in the last few games the visitors are slowly and surely starting to stand on their own feet and get points. They are in very good form in the last 5 games, winning 3 and losing 2 in a row to Columbus. Colorado can definitely do more, and they will start to prove it, they are still missing the injured MacKinnon, who is a huge mainstay for this team and his goals and assists are definitely missing at the moment.
On the one side, the stats say that tonight could be a very even game, because both teams have a weaker start to the league, but I'm going with my instinct, which tells me that Colorado has a better offense, a better defense, and more stable performances of goalkeepers.
My bet:
3-Way: Colorado Avalanche @ 1.95 (bet365)
