This year's NHL season will begin in Florida. Defending champion Tampa Bay will open the season with a home game against Pittsburgh, bringing together two teams that have won four Stanley Cups in the last six years.
The home team Tampa Bay, who won in both 2020 and 2021, are in a slightly better position and have ambitions to attack the hattrick this year. The squad stayed mostly together, with Tyler Johnson leaving, but the team was boosted by experienced Corey Perry and Pierre-Edouard Bellemare. Toronto's Zach Bogosian was also able to work his way into the lineup. Unlike last season, the biggest stars, Stamkos and Kucherov, are fit and Vasilevsky will once again impress us with his goaltending performances that every fan of the best hockey league has to look forward to. Tampa should have the same strength as last year.
Tampa alternated better and worse results in the pre-season, but the experienced team knows how to time their form, the last two games before the start of the season were excellent, beating Florida 4:2 and 6:2, the team once again confirmed their huge offensive strength.
Pittsburgh did a decent job in pre-season, but mostly played weaker teams like Buffalo or Detroit, Tampa is a class above. Plus, it looks like the Crosby-Malkin duo will miss the start of the season, which is an inconvenience despite their advancing age
Tampa can play Pittsburgh, winning three of the last four meetings at home in regulation time and once in overtime away. The first games of the season are a bit unreadable, but more indications favor the reigning champion.
My bet:
Asian Handicap: Tampa Bay -1.5 @ 2.05 (bet365)
