Europa League
It's going to be a tough week for Sparta! On Thursday they host Glasgow Rangers at Letná, on Sunday they welcome Slavia at home in the Prague derby.
The current season has shown that Sparta is not doing very well in matches with strong teams (Monaco, Plzen, Jablonec), but if they have a chance to succeed, it is only at home. Unfortunately, Sparta will have to do without the support of the fans in the Europa League, only 10,000 thousand kids will get into the stadium. The Prague club tuned up for EL with a weekend win in Zlin (5:2), and the team confirmed that team is doing well going forward. Under Vrba, the Spartans have learned to play fast up front, especially Drchal, Hložek, Haraslín (or Karlsson) and Pešek. All of these players are also able of scoring goals. On the other hand, team have a problem in the middle of the pitch (defensive activity) due to a number of absences, especially Ladislav Krejčí Jr. is significantly missing. There are other players (Krejci Sr., Polidar, Höjer, Souček etc...) on injury list, so some positions are not doubled anymore.
Sparta's first game in Bröndby (Denmark) probably could have been more than a " just " 0:0 draw, but it is not a failure for them.
Sparta may have a problem with the emphasis against Rangers, after all, the Scottish team plays on/off the rules, which it showed last year in the duels with Slavia Prague. However, Scottish club is not as dominant in this year's league as in the last. Coach Gerrard's squad often wins by the closest difference, which was not the usual before. The team's productivity was down compared to last year, and key offensive player Ryan Kent will not be available against Sparta.
In their first Europa League game, Rangers lost 0:2 at home against Lyon, so they will go into the game under more pressure and may underrate Sparta.
My bet:
Draw No Bet: Sparta Prague @ 1.83 (bet365)
