The 1st round of the National Cup was played in Spain this week. Villarreal won the Copa del Rey opener against amateur side Victoria (8-0), while Sevilla beat Córdoba (4th league) 1-0 in the Andalusian derby after extra time.
In league competition, Sevilla are better than Villarreal. Coach Julen Lopetegui's squad is fourth with 28 points, while the 16-point visitors are twelfth. Not surprising, as Villarreal have won just three games since the start of the league season (3-7-4) and none away (0-5-2). That's why Sevilla is the favourite for this duel. Although Sevilla were unlucky to lose to table leader Real Madrid a week ago (Benzema completed the turnaround to 2-1 three minutes before the end), they have not yet found an opponent in their own stadium this season (5-1-0).
Last season, the home team always dominated their matches (Sevilla 2:0, Villareal 4:0). In the clash of the two Spanish representatives in the Champions League I believe more in the home team.
