Atalanta won at Cagliari (2-1) before the national break and, with the teams at the top of the table faltering, reduced their deficit to ten points. It's still a significant difference, but Atalanta have never been strong in the openings of new seasons, which is mainly proved by the fact that they have never had more than the current 22 points after the first 12 rounds! Their coach Gian Piero Gasperini achieved his 200th victory in the top Italian competition with his success in Sardinia and he would certainly welcome a gift from his players in the form of an improved performance at home stadium. Atalanta have won five of their opening six away games for the first time in their history this season, suggesting that they are not very successful at home (1-3-2). Spezia, fighting for survival, did beat Torino 1-0 in the last round, but otherwise have conceded 26 goals this season, the joint worst performance in the league. Their weakness is mainly in away games, where they have conceded a total of 18 goals in six occasions and so far they've had a pretty favorable draw. The strongest team they've played was Lazio, where they got a 6-1 debacle. Last year, they lost 1-3 at this stadium, conceding all three goals in a poor 20 minutes in the second half.
My prediction: Asian Handicap: Atalanta -2.0 @ 2.02 (bet365)
