Champions League - Group Stage
Those first games didn't bring many goals. I attribute it to the balance of all 4 teams and the caution in the first two rounds - not to lose. That's why we have 3 draws out of 4 matches, with not a single over falling our way, only once 3 goals fell. Only Salzburg managed to win at least one game, 2-1 against Lille in the 2nd round.
Now the 3rd round will be played and I am convinced that Wolfsburg have nothing to wait for in the match at Salzburg. A third draw in a row could be a downer for them in the final showdown. That's why I'm convinced Wolfsburg will play to win. Because the draw doesn't solve much. Wolfburg needs to win. The winner will generally come very close to advancing. Salzburg, of course, much more. If Salzburg were to win and Sevilla were to win in Lille, which is quite likely, then the top two would have already jumped Wolfsburg by quite a bit.
In general, Wolfsburg is an attacking team and in the Bundesliga we are used to seeing them somewhere at the top of the table. But right now they have not been doing well in the league. After a great start, when Wolfsburg won 3 times and drew once, came 3 defeats in a row. They moved them down a bit in the table to 6th place. Still, it's only the beginning of the league.
What is important for our bet is that in 2 of these 3 defeats 4 goals were scored! In Wolfsburg's last 5 games across competitions, 4 or more goals have been scored in 3 of them (1:3, 1:1, 1:3, 4:1, 0:2). And if Wolfsburg fail, Salzburg, who are very good at shooting, will surely come through. In their last home league game, they beat Lask Linz 4-1. Salzburg have not lost a point at home in the league and have scored 16 goals in 5 games.
Salzburg's top scorer is only 19-year-old Karim Adeyemi, who has already scored 8 league goals (in 10 games) and has scored twice in the Champions League.
I think that there have been enough draws in this group and that the match will be rich in goals this time. Just like it was in the Champions League tonight (Tuesday), where it was like a blessing in disguise. Consider that over 4 or more goals fell in 7 of the 8 matches! And in 5 games even 5 or more goals fell.
