Few expected Vallecano, who finished sixth in the second league last season and squeaked into the top league through the playoffs, to be sixth after less than half of the LaLiga season. However, it happened. Rayo picked up 27 points in 17 rounds (8-3-6), which put them in sixth place and they even have the best home score (7-1-0, 17-3 score). They will have a good chance to improve their excellent home score on Saturday. They welcomes Alavés, which is not doing well. Deportivo Alaves have only won a point in the previous two rounds against bottom placed opponents (Granada 1:2, Getafe 1:1), and on Tuesday they were eliminated in the second round of the Copa del Rey when they fell to third-tier CD Linares (1:2). Rayo is thus the clear favourite in this competition.
