The home Pittsburgh have a 10-6-4 score (5-4-2 at home), while Montreal have a 5-15-2 record and a literally punishing away performance (1-9-1). The team around Tristan Jarry will be looking to extend their five-game win streak, which they have an impressive 16-2 score (with Montreal 6-0, Toronto 2-0, Winnipeg 3-1, Vancouver 4-1 and New York Islanders 1-0). Montreal is worse off. Last time, they lost in Buffalo 1:4 and before that they didn't come out victorious in Washington (3:6).
Pittsburgh has to do without Evgeni Malkin and Bryan Rust remains a question mark. Visiting Montreal is a bit worse off. Paul Byron, Joel Edmondson, Mike Hoffman, Mathieu Perreault and Carey Price remain out for this game. With a question mark on the Habs side for this game is Brett Kulak, who is nursing an unspecified lower body injury.
Pittsburgh vs Montreal (rankings)
* goals per game: 2.900 (15th) vs 2.182 (30th)
* goals conceded per game: 2.500 (5th) vs 3.636 (31st)
* shots on goal per game: 35.35 (2nd) vs 29.82 (21st)
* succedd shooting percentage: 8.20% (24th) vs 7.32% (28th)
* shot success rate of all goalies on the team: 91.90% (6th) vs 88.70% (31st)
The home team is shooting as hard as they can this season. Averaging 35 shots per game. However, the success percentage is not as high as the Pens players would like. What is surprising is that the team has the best shorthanded defense (90.20%). What's even more interesting is that Pittsburgh is the worst at converting power plays, just 11.86%!
Pittsburgh will be looking to build on their last game in Montreal, where they destroyed the Habs 6-0. The first star of the game was Teddy Blueger (2+1).
My bet:
3-Way: Pittsburgh Penguins @ 1.76 (bet365)
