EUROPE: World Cup - Qualification
The Swiss will finish this national break with a match in Northern Ireland. They have played very well in qualifying group C. After 3 games they are in second place with 7 points. They are 4 points behind the leader Italy, but they have 2 games less, so they will come very motivated to beat Northern Ireland, who got 4 points in 3 games.
Northern Ireland is slowly disappearing from our map of the better European teams, with most of our players making a living in one of the lower English or Scottish leagues. The quality of the squad is simply worsening, but the Northern Irish continue their style, playing mainly from a secure defence.
During the national break they managed to beat Lithuania 4:1 in qualification and Estonia 1:0 in a friendly. Against Estonia they had even lower possession of the ball.
Switzerland is a team several levels higher than both Lithuania and Estonia, they regularly qualify for big events and then get a solid result (remember the round of 16 against France in this year's EURO).
In this national break, they managed to beat 2:1 the Greeks in a friendly and then managed to draw 0:0 with the current European champions Italy in the qualifiers. In the match, captain Sommer saved a penalty by Jorghino.
Switzerland has players from the best leagues in Europe (Sommer, Akanji, Seferovic, Steffen, Frei, Elvedi, Schar, Vargas, Zakaria). This is an individual quality that Northern Ireland cannot compare to.
The difference in the quality of the both squads is huge, and Swiss are certainly aware of what they are playing for.
My bet:
Handicap: Switzerland AH -1.0 @ 2.06 (local bookie)
