Premier League
The visitors from Manchester are rightly favoured in this match.
For how Manchester have unexpectedly struggled in Premier League since the start, it's still not too bad in the table. They're 6th in the table, 5 points behind 4th. Arsenal (note that the latter was even worse than MU at the start of the competition). So MU is quite a long way from the crucial 4th place, but it has to be said that due to postponed games, MU has 2 games to play compared to the top 4 (if they had managed them for 6 points, they would be in 3rd place now). So still no big horror. However, MU can't continue to mess with the nerves of the management and fans and against second to last Newcastle anything other than a win will be seen as another blowout. There's been a lot of those.
Just to remind you: 0:5 with Liverpool, 0:2 with City or a 1:4 loss at Watford. I hope that's gone. MU hasn't lost 4 times since Watford and won 3 of them. Albeit always by a goal, but even that counts for 3 points. A very important win was against Arsenal, who they beat 3-2.
The bad thing is that because of those previous beatings, they have a pretty weak scoreline: 26:24, which may play an important role in the final accounting. The teams ahead of them obviously have a much better score - e.g. 3rd Chelsea 39:12, not to mention the first Man City with a score of 44:9. Even Arsenal, who started PL after 3 games with a 0:9 score, have that score 2 goals better than Man Utd. So that's why MU has to win. But the question is what the long break did to the team because of the postponed games with Brentford and Brighton. United last game was at Norwich on Dec 11th where they won 1-0. But the luxury of a loss or a draw with Newcastle is simply not afforded to the Reds given their position in the table.
Newcastle has been in the spotlight since the club changed owners. The new, and quite controversial, owner is a Saudi Arabian family led by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. However, anyone who thought that Newcastle would be shooting for one win in a row from then on was disappointed. Under new ownership, Newcastle have won only one of their 11 games against Burnley (1-0). Otherwise, it's a misery - Newcastle's overall score from those 11 games is: 1-4-6.
Newcastle's last 3 games have seen the following drubbings: 0:4 at Leicester, 1:3 at Liverpool and 0:4 with Man City. Not that MU is giving similar beatings too, but maybe they should win. Although it was against Newcastle that he managed to score those goals too: The last 4 league games between them have always gone strongly for MU: 4-1, 3-1, 4-1. The very last mutual match was played at Old Trafford earlier this season (4:1) and Cristiano Ronaldo scored 2 times.
Newcastle coach Eddie Howe will miss due to injuries his important defender Fedrrico Fernandez (thigh injury) and midfielder Jamal Lewis (hamstring). Midfielder Isaac Hayden will not start due to cards.
Manchester United is complete, its squad led by star Cristiano Ronaldo is so full that they should be able to beat a weak Newcastle in bigger goal difference.
My bet:
Asian Handicap: Manchester United -1.0 @ 1.85 (bet365)
