Ligue 1
After the national break, the club football in France will bring one of the top matches of the round, the duel between Monaco and Lille. Teams that, surprisingly, open the second half of the table. Monaco continues to experience goal scoring impotence after the last round, having failed to score for 3 competitive matches in a row. The team around star striker Ben Yedder brought back a point for the goalless draw from Reims and recorded another appreciable loss against a team from the lower ranks of the table. The home game against Lille will now be another key game for Monaco as the points gap to the cup places slowly starts to grow.
Lille, leaving aside the valuable Champions League win in Sevilla, are also not having an ideal season. They haven't won 4 games in a row in the league and are only 12th with 18 points behind the first place, which certainly doesn't look like a title defence. In the last match against Angers, Lille suffered a series of missed chances and for the second time in a row at home they failed to hold a one-goal lead and conceded from a counter-attack at the end to 1:1, then Onana was unnecessarily sent off. Jocelyn Gourvennec is also unlikely to have the competition's top scorer, Canadian Jonathan David, at his disposal as he will play an important World Cup game against Mexico on Wednesday morning and Canada is counting on him heavily.
Matches after the national break are often very unpredictable, and this one will be no exception, but I still see Monaco as a slight favourite with more hunger to win.
My bet:
Draw No Bet: Monaco @ 1.53 (bet365)
