Ligue 1
Metz, one of the weakest teams in the league, will welcome Stade Rennes on Sunday. The start of the season has made it very clear to Metz that this season will be more of a struggle for survival for them than playing in a quiet middle of table like last season. Although the only win (1:2) the round before last in Brest lifted Metz from last place in table, but the performance of the team from the north-east of France sometimes gives a clueless impression. In the last round, coach Frederico Antonetti's men were looking for a point at Angers when they managed to score from just two shots, but a goal in the fourth minute of stoppage time condemned them to their fifth defeat of the season.
Rennes, on the other hand, picked a fantastic victory before the national break, completely nullifying the attacking trio from PSG and after goals by the competition's leading scorer Laborde and Tait, they booked a valuable two-goal victory on their field. Rennes are also doing well in their debut in the Conference League, where they are in a promotion position after a draw with Tottenham and a win at Arnhem. Apart from the mentioned Laborde, the youngster Sulemana, a pre-season signing from Nordsjaelland in Denmark, is also contributing with his great speed and he is able to make the opponent's defence struggle. Clermont know this, where Rennes recently recorded a six-goal victory and it was Ghana's Sulemana who scored two goals.
If the Rennes players want to think about further participation in the European Cups, they should win on the pitch of the below-average Metz.
H2H:
Metz 1:3 Rennes (2021)
Rennes 1:0 Metz (2020)
Metz 0:1 Rennes (2019)
My bet:
Rennes @ 1.70 (bet365)
