GERMANY: Bundesliga - Round 1
Betting the first rounds is always tricky, and the first one especially so. It's probably not a bad idea to wait a few rounds and see how the teams start the new season of their leagues. However, I'll take my chances here and count on Bayern to be as dominant as in other years and enter the new season with a win. Not that the game at Gladbach was completely easy, but Bayern doesn't usually pick and choose and plays to win always and everywhere.
Bayern's foundation remains the same as last year. In attack, Bayern will again rely mainly on the shooting skills of Lewandowski, who scored an incredible 41 goals last season and became the league's top scorer. Coach Flick left Bayern over the summer and was replaced by Nagelsmann, a relatively young but still experienced strategist, who proved his skills at Hoffenheim and most recently with Leipzig, with whom he even reached the semi-finals of the Champions League a year ago.
Borussia Mönchengladbach finished 8th last season and missed out on the European Cups. Hannes Wolf, a 22 year old midfielder, transferred from Leipzig to Borussia, but he has already played for Borussia last season (on loan). But another midfielder, Lars Stindl, who scored 14 goals last season, is also a great support for Borussia.
It will definitely be a tough game for Bayern, even more so since it's the first game of the season. But I believe that Bayern will confirm their role as favourites and will win the first match.
