FRANCE: Ligue 1 - Round 3
Clermont is newcomer of the league, promoted to the top French league from 2nd place. Pre-season and the first league matches showed how good this team is. Clermont didn't lose a single game in the pre-season (5 W / 2 D). They also have teams like Montpellier, St.Etienne, or Nantes against them. All of these teams play in the first league. Yet Clermont managed to beat them all.
Clermont managed to win 2:0 at Bordeaux in the first round. It was no random result. Bordeaux had no chance in the match. Clermont dominated against their opponent all the time. We could see the same scenario in the 2nd round against Troyes, in which Clermont again dominated and deservedly won again 2:0.
Their opponent is Lyon. In their pre-season they managed to beat French teams that don't even play in the first league and Wolfsburg (4:1). But when they played against better opponents, they almost always lost (Villareal 2:2, Sporting 3:2, Porto 5:3).
In the league, Lyon first drew 1-1 with a weak Brest. In the second round they even got beaten 0:3 by Angers.
That's why I believe that Clermont, who are playing very well this season, will not lose in Lyon and I think the odds of the visitors not losing are worth a try.
