In Thursday's Europa League match, Monaco secured direct promotion from first place to the next stage of the competition with a win over Real Sociedad (2:1), which they will try to build on in the next round of the league, as after 3 consecutive winless matches (2:0 Brest, 0:0 Reims, 2:2 Lille), Niko Kovac's players are only in 8th place, 6 points behind the much-coveted Champions League. In the last league game, Monaco had a completely messed up start to the game, which they had to make up for the rest of the game, and managed to partially make up for the two goals they conceded in the first ten minutes by equalizing and thus settling for just a point again. The game against Racing Strasbourg is one of the next ones where Monaco must win unconditionally, but it will not be easy.
Strasbourg is playing quite good, attractive football this season and can give any team a hard time. Although the main strength of the Alsatian team lies mainly in the home environment, they can play a very unpleasant style in away games too, where they rely mainly on a stable defense and fast counterattacks. Last round, in the absence of key striker Ajorqua, Julien Stephan's palyers only drew 1-1 with Reims and had to save the tie with a goal by Bellegarde, while Gameiro missed a penalty kick in the first half.
Both teams have the same number of points in the table and are right next to each other, so we can expect at least initially an even match in which both teams will score, which is surprisingly high odds. Strasbourg, along with several teams, has the second best attack in the competition and Monaco has an excellent goal scorer Ben Yedder.
My prediction: Both Teams to Score - Yes @ 1.80 (bet365)
