Marseille didn't let Strasbourg down in the last round and took full points from their stadium with a 2-0 win. Thanks to this win, Marseille is now second behind Paris with a game to play against Lyon. Like every other first league team, coach Sampaoli's squad also played their match in the cup, where they beat Cannet Rocheville, a team from the third highest competition, 4-1 to claim their third consecutive victory. They will be looking to follow that up at home against Reims.
The Northern French side is having a very good season, winning four of their last five matches. The last time it was St. Etienne who went down 2-0 in Reims, with youngsters Toure and Mbuku (20 and 19 years old) scoring their first goals of the season. Then on Sunday came the obligatory promotion in the cup, in the city derby with a team from the fifth league (Reims Ste Anne). Oscar Garcia's players won narrowly 1-0 with a much changed line-up compared to the league matches. Martin Adeline, who turned 18 at the beginning of December, scored. Reims are trying to build on such players in the long term, which they can pay for in the last game of the year at the Stade Velodrome.
Payet and co. will want to fight to stay in the Champions League fight and a game against a not-so-inexperienced Reims should do the trick in that situation. Betting on a lower number of goals in the game may not be a bad option either. Both teams are not particularly productive offensively and defend fairly solidly. But I still believe that Marseille will win.
My prediction: Marseille @ 1.70 (bet365)
