Defending champion Sporting have not lost their quality compared to last year and they are still performing at a high level. I believe Sporting will beat Maritimo at home by at least two goals.
Sporting are in 3rd place (4-2-0 - 10:3) and together with Porto they are 4 points behind leader Benfica. At the weekend, Sporting recovered from a 1-5 defeat to Ajax in the Champions league and Sporting beat league surprise Estoril 1-0 away. Sporting have a very good defensive phase as well as attacking phase, which makes them a competitive team for Porto and Benfica. The last arrival took place a few days ago, when Pablo Sarabia joined the team at the last minute from PSG but only on loan.
Sporting has also shown their qualities in the pre-season games, in which it has won most of them, including against teams like Lyon. The fact that this season will be no different can be seen in the results of this year's Portuguese league, in which Sporting has not lost after 6 league matches, and they have already played matches against opponents like Braga or Porto.
Maritimo plays their standard, again it's kind of a weaker average. They are currently 11th in the league with 6 points, but the table is very balanced at the beginning of the season (the last team in the table Tondela has 3 points). Maritimo have only managed to win once in the league so far this season, and that was against a very average Belenenses 2-1. In other cases, they have only drawn or lost, even against weak Portuguese teams. In the last league round, Maritimo drew 0-0 at Famalicao, against whom they failed to send a single shot on the opponent's goal in the whole match. Maritimo can be happy for a point.
H2H: Last season
Sporting 5:1 Maritimo
Maritimo 0:2 Sporting
Prediction:
Asian Handicap: Sporting -1.5 @ 1.91 (bet365)
