Real Madrid can return to the top of the league for at least one day if they win the city derby against Vallecano. They are only a point behind Real Sociedad (who have played one more game). The most productive team in LaLiga (26 goals) is currently stretching a streak of five competitive matches without a loss (4-1-0) and has beaten Rayo in fourteen of the previous fifteen matches (14-0-1), with the only loss coming in the last one in April 2019, when Real fell away 0-1. Real have won this little derby ten times in a row at the Santiago Bernabéu with a total score of 42:8. In the last round, Real won at Elche 2-1, missing their goal scorer Benzena, who will now be available. But at that Elche, the top scorer was brilliantly replaced by another striker, Vinícius, who scored both goals. This puts Benzema and Vinícius in the top two places in the Spanish league scorers table and together they have scored 16 goals.
Ancelotti's team will be the clear favourite against the newcomer this season, despite the fact that Rayo have been more than successful in their return to the elite (6th place, 6-2-4, 18:12). However, it shouldn't be enough against Real Madrid.
