Omsk have a very strong team this year, but it seems to me that they haven't used the potential that the team have so far. Omsk is currently in 6th place in the Eastern Conference with 20 points in 17 games played. Team features goalie Simon Hrubec, two very advanced Finnish players - Oliver Kaski (3+10) and Ville Poka (2+4). Experienced Russian player on the defensive line Emelin or Bereglazov, who has 3+3 so far. In the offensive line Russian players Prokhorkin (3+4), Tolchinsky (3+13), also very productive Canadian Corban Knight (9+11). Omsk has been in very good form in recent weeks, winning all of their last 4 games.
They will face Sochi, which is last in its conference and only Vladivostok is worse in the league in points. They have played 9 games at home so far this season, 5 of which they lost in regular time and they were the teams playing at the top of the table and Sochi scored only 4 goals in them. Overall their attacking play is very much at random and this is matched by an average of under 2 goals scored per game. There is no big star in the team, so their image of game and especially their position in the table fits. This team is definitely not in the playoffs and will stick to the bottom ranks.
For me, Omsk, their team is very well composed and I expect that they should gradually get even higher in the table, they definitely have the names and quality to do so. If they build on their performances from previous games, they should have no problems with this match.
My prediction: Asian Handicap: Avangard Omsk -1.5 @ 2.30 (bet365)
