Olympic Games - Play Offs - Quarter-finals
Home team Japan is one of the biggest favourites to win a medal in the men's Olympic football tournament after superfavourites Spain and Brazil. Japan confirmed this already in the group stage, where they won all 3 matches - 1:0 against South Africa, 2:1 against Mexico and 4:0 against France in the last match. Now Japan will face a surprise from New Zealand in the quarter-finals.
New Zealand surprisingly defeated South Korea 1:0 in the first match and that actually decided the advance. Then New Zealand lost 2:3 to Honduras and played a necessary 0:0 draw with Romania.
The home team has an excellent squad, besides players from the home league there are also several players from European leagues, in defence Nakayama (Zwolle), Yoshida (Sampdoria), Tomiyasu (Bologna), in midfield Tanaka and Endo, who play in the German Bundesliga, Doan (PSV), Kubo (Real Madrid). Also in the New Zealand team we can find several players who are playing in Europe. But the quality is not equal to the Japanese team.
I can't imagine at all that the home team Japan should somehow collapse and not advance to the semi-finals. At the same time, victory should be by a higher goal difference.
My bet:
Handicap: Japan Ol -1.5 @ 1.91 (local bookie)
