ITF WOMEN - SINGLES: W25 Karaganda (Kazakhstan), hard (indoor) - 1/8-finals
This match will offer us a duel between Swiss tennis player Valentina Ryser (595) and Berfu Cengiz (349) from Turkey.
Ryser is a 20-year-old player and the highest she has looked at is 553rd in the rankings (August 2021). She has a pretty good 37/21 score this year and also won the Ramat Hasharon title on hard. She also played another final recently on clay in Dijon, but she lost to Granwehr in 3 sets. She added 4 more semifinals placings. She made her first indoor appearance here this year and beat the talented Ukrainian Soboleva 7:6 6:0.
Cengiz is a 22-year-old tennis player and her ranking high was at 315 (May 2019). Her score this year is 21/12 and she won the title in her 1st tournament this year on clay in Antalya and took semifinal in the next 2 events. But after that, she didn't have any results for a long time and only caught up a bit in Parnu, Estonia, where she was not given a chance in SF by Kanepi. Here she beat 18 year old Russian Polina Kudermetova in 3 sets.
In this match I will trust the young Swiss, who has been giving very consistent and quality performances this year. Cengiz, on the other hand, hasn't been in good form in recent months and it's possible that she's not completely healthy, as she didn't play in the Prague qualifier at the end of July and played only one tournament since.
