ITF WOMEN - SINGLES: W15 Monastir 41 (Tunisia), hard - Final
This title match will feature a duel between Japan's Natsumi Kawaguchi (1006) and Austria's Tamir Paszek (983).
Kawaguchi is a 19-year-old player and in juniors she even made it to 5th place. In women's, her ranking high was 777th (February 2020). She played one match last year and only made her first appearance on the courts this year last week, here in Monastir, and fell to 16-year-old Croatian Marcinko in the 2nd round. This week, she smoothly beat Boehner and Zhabrailova here and got past Serbia's Djakovic and Italy's Rossi in 3 sets.
Paszek is a 30-year-old tennis player whose highest ranking in the world was 26th (February 2013). She's been plagued by protracted health problems in recent years, but has played a decent amount of matches this year and looks good health-wise so far. She has a 23/15 score and 10/7 on hard and is playing very well in this tournament. She hasn't lost a set and has knocked out Vanhoutte, Wildgruber, last week's Kawaguchi beater Marcinko, and most recently in SF, China's Ma.
In this match I definitely believe in the experienced Paszek, who has progressed here in a very sovereign way so far and if she is in good health, she still has a lot to offer and at 30 years old she can definitely play a few more seasons.
