ITF WOMEN - SINGLES: W25 Selva Gardena (Italy), hard (indoor)
This match will offer us a duel between Russian tennis player Erika Andreeva (369) and Seone Mendez (243) from Australia.
Andreeva is a 17-year-old tennis player and was ranked 11th in the juniors. She played only one tournament this year, the French Open, where she made it to the final and was not able to beat Czech Linda Noskova. Among women she has a 37/14 score this year and won 1 title (Sharm Al Sheikh). She also played the final on clay in Verbier and added 3 more semifinals finishes. Her indoor score this year is 10/4 and her last appearance was last week in Ortiseia where she knocked out Zuger and Jacquemot after a successful qualification and fell short in the quarterfinal to the surprise of the tournament, India's Thandi. Here she beat the American Failla and then she defeated the home player Di Giuseppe in 3 sets.
Mendez is a 22-year-old player and her ranking high was at 206 (October 2021). She is mainly a clay court player and won her only title this year in Amiens, France, earlier this year. She also added 2 more semifinals and quarterfinal placings. In her last 4 tournaments on clay she has finished in the 1st round and last time in Ortiseia she fell short to Serbia's Stevanovic. There she beat the home player Raggi in the opening match and advanced without a fight over Latvia's Marcinkevica.
In this match, the favourite for me is the young Russian, who is a very universal player for her age and she is doing well indoors. Mendez is nowhere near as strong off clay and I expect this match to be the final one for her in this tournament.
