Both of Monday's opponents finished in the top half of the table last season. Granada rounded out the top 10, while Betis earned a Europa League place with a sixth-place finish.
But the start of the new season was not very good for either of these clubs. Granada took just two points in the three rounds before the national break (Villarreal 0-0, Valencia 1-1, Vallecano 0-4) and a heavy defeat at the ground of newcomer Vallecas gave some reasons to think.
Betis did very similarly, to the two draws (Mallorca 1:1, Cadiz 1:1) it added a loss to Real Madrid in the third match, but only lost 0:1.
Both Granada and Betis will now go into the clash with two points on their account and with the aim of recording their first win of the new league season. Granada could be helped by their home crowd, but Betis have performed slightly better and more consistently in the first three rounds and have a better squad than their opponent.
There is no clear favourite in this duel. I expect an even match, so I bet on a draw.
