Europa League - Group Stage
Lyon is considered to be the favourite of the group (Lyon, Rangers, Brondby, Sparta Prague), and the club said before the start of the Europa League that they want to win it. But the visitors will be much weakened in Scotland. Missing from the squad is striker Moussa Dembélé, who with four goals is Lyon's top scorer in the season opener and has scored in the last three games. His absence is also frustrating for the French team because Dembélé spent two years at rival Celtic and knows Rangers well. Also missing from the usual line-up are captain Leo Dubois and Brazilian midfielder Thiago Mendes. Lyon have a score of 2-2-1 in the league so far.
But Steven Gerrard is also suffering from injury problems, mainly in the centre of defence. Swedish stopper Filip Helander injured his knee and will be out until the end of the year, while his defensive partner Connor Goldson will start shortly after his isolation ended. Rangers have a score of 4-0-1 in the league so far.
A draw could ultimately suit both the Scottish league leader and ambitious Lyon.
