A week ago Espanyol were looking for a point at the Camp Nou in the city derby with their more famous and more successful rival, but in the end they came away empty-handed after a 0-1 defeat decided by Depay's penalty after a foul on himself. Espanyol have thus won only one of their last five games (1-2-2) and dropped to 11th place. Its opponent on Sunday, Real Sociedad, also experienced a drop in the league standings. Sociedad no longer lead the league, having only drawn with Valencia (0-0) in the last round, which Real Madrid took advantage of to move a point ahead of them (plus a game to play). San Sebastian could not be happy even after Thursday's Europa League match in Monaco, where they lost 1:2 and will have to beat Eindhoven in the last round of the regular group to stay in the second most prestigious club competition, otherwise they will be relegated to the Conference League. In total, Real Sociedad have won only one of their previous five Europa League matches (1-3-1). Motivation is therefore taken care of on both sides.
The visitors are the paper favourites with twelve points more than hom team, having lost only in the first round in Barcelona (9-3-1 score), and have clearly higher ambitions than newcomer Espanyol for the rest of the season. Real Sociedad have also won their three previous meetings. Still, Sociedad will have a tough game in Monaco, so I prefer to bet the number two in a game without a draw.
My bet:
Draw No Bet: Real Sociedad @ 1.72 (bet365)
