WTA - SINGLES: US Open (USA) - Qualification, hard - Quarter-finals
A duel between Ekaterina Gorgodze (163) from Georgia and Lucrezia Stefanini (213) from Italy.
Gorgodze is a 29-year-old player with a high ranking of 144th (July 2019). She prefers to play on clay (23/9 this year). In the beginning of the year she didn't win anything on hard and fell in all 6 matches she played. In Landesville, she made it through qualifying and got her first win on hard in the main event this year, against Vandeweghe (1:1 - Van retired).
Stefanini is a 23-year-old player, currently at her maximum rank. On the hard this year she took the title in Salinas, the final in Monastir and the SF in Calvi. However, she is also doing well on clay, having beaten Parry, Paquet, Mendez and played SF with Selekhmetova in Biarritz. She added her second title of the year on clay in Radom, Poland, where she beat Bondar, Shymanovich and Kolodziej in the final.
Stefanini has been playing well on all surfaces this year. Gorgodze is nowhere near as strong on hard as she is on clay and I expect the Italian player will advance.
My bet:
Lucrezia Stefanini @ 2.0 (bet365)
