ATP - SINGLES: US Open (USA) - Qualification, hard - Quarter-finals
The first round of qualification for the US Open will also see Popko try to beat Slovenian Rola and turn around the unfavourable score with his opponent, which is currently 0:3. Last time Rola beat Popko this year on clay in Split, before that on hard court in Dubai in a very close match.
A lot of time has passed since Rola's victory and since then the Slovenian tennis player's form has been poor (11/14), the maximum since his triumph in Split is the quarter-final in Salzburg. Popko, on the other hand, has picked up significantly after a slow start to the season, playing in the final of the Challenger in Prague, where he fell to Svrcina, adding a semifinal in Poznan and a solid match against Zapata, the last time he fell to Clarke in Italy.
Popko hasn't won a match on hard this year, but he's also only played two, that one very close with Rola in Dubai, then in Miami he fell to Fratangelo, which is a very tough opponent for the first round of qualification on hard.
Popek's total score on hard court is 152/98. Rola has a score of 84/74 on hard court and has played most of his matches on clay, this year he played six duels on hard and have a score of 3/3 (last played on a hard in March).
Popko seems to be in much better form, winning six of his last ten matches. Rola has won four of his last 10 games and doesn't enter to New York in good form.
My bet:
