HOCKEY: Czech Republic
The teams, who know each other very well from the playoff preliminary round last season, Olomouc surprised from the twelfth place and beat Plzen 3:0.
Plzen are just ahead of their opponents in sixth place and have won seven of their last nine games. Plzen managed to beat the strong Sparta 5:4, Pardubice 3:3, but in the last game they were unable to beat the first-placed Trinec 1:2 at home. Plzen scored a goal to make it 2:1, but the goal would be called back after a successful challenge by coach of Trinec. New Plzen reinforcements are playing very well, Martins Dzierkals and Ludwig Blomstrand are in the top ten in scoring, Slovak quarterback Peter Čerešňák is still the most productive back in the competition.
Olomouc will be playing only their sixth away game and will be looking to leapfrog sixth-placed Plzen from seventh place. Olomouc have won four of their last five matches and will be looking to build on their last one against Sparta Prague. Olomouc was down 0:3 at home to Sparta with less than five minutes left in the third period, yet Zdeněk Moták's team managed to tie the game in an unbelievable way and eventually win 4:3 after a shootout.
Both teams faced each other in the third round, the match ended with Olomouc winning 4:1. After a slow start, Plzen has started with great speed at home and is one of the best teams in the extraliga. Therefore, Plzen could win the game, but it will be by a very close difference.
