CZECH REPUBLIC: Extraliga - Round 4
I favour Liberec here. After all, this team is one of the regulars of the league and they fight in the playoffs every year. They have played three games so far this year, with two wins and one shootout loss. They beat Hradec Kralove 1:0 and Karlovy Vary 3:2, and lost to Litvínov 2:3 in a shootout. Anyway, I think they will fight for the playoffs again this year and they will beat weaker opponents.
Liberec will be hurt mainly by the loss of Radan Lence, Adam Musil, Michal Bulíř and Ronald Knot. However, the home team still have a very good lineup, with one of the best goalkeepers in the league Petr Kváča guarding the net and Ladislav Šmíd, who has NHL experience with the Edmonton Oilers and Calgary Flames, leading the defence. Jakub Klepis and Tomas Zaborsky have come to support the offence, the first two forwards should be strong at home.
Kladno have also played three games this season and have three losses. They lost to teams they could probably beat, because I don't think České Budějovice or Vítkovice will even be in the top eight. Vitkovice won 2-1 and Ceske Budejovice won 7-5. Kladno have 18 two-minute penalties in those two games. They also lost to Hradec Králové 0-3. Kladno resisted there, but in fact they have no claim. Hradec dominated and didn't let them do much of anything.
12 goals conceded says something about Kladno's defensive performance. The offense doesn't look so good either, Plekanec and Jagr are not keeping up and there is no big player in the team. If Kladno wants to stay alive, they will have to get stronger with new players, otherwise they will face the same fate as in the 2019/2020 season.
Liberec is the clear favourite. In my opinion, Kladno will struggle on the last positions, because so far they are not showing very convincing performances.
My prediction: Handicap - Liberec -1.5 @ 1.70 (bet365)
