HOCKEY: Czech Republic
Hradec has won nine of their last eleven games and is in second place in the table behind Trinec. Hradec lost two games in a row (3:4 after overtime to Mlada Boleslav and 3:8 to Sparta), but they didn't get caught off guard and beat Kometa Brno 3:1. All three goals were scored by defensemen, first by Canadians Graeme McCormack and Jeremie Blain and then by Bohumil Jank. In the past seasons, Hradec presented defensive hockey and this year their foundation is a strong defence, which can often support the offence and decide games. This is a big difference, because Mountfield HK is also forward and is perhaps one of the biggest surprises of this season.
Litvinov has been in form in recent duels, pointing in five of the last six games. Last time they lost to Vítkovice 3:4 after shootout and is in 10th place. Litvínov's offense is led by Patrik Zdráhal and Giorgio Estephan, Richard Jarusek has ten goals, and the veteran and second oldest player in the league Viktor Hübl is still valid, recently scoring his 400th goal in the top competition.
The duel between Hradec and Litvínov will certainly be very spicy for coach Vladimír Růžička, who was on the bench of Hradec last season. He will want to push his charges to victory, but it will be difficult. The home team is the favourite and will win by three points.
My prediction: Hradec Kralove (in regular time) @ 1.64 (bet365)
