HOCKEY: Czech Republic
Ceske Budejovice are in eighth place after 16 games, playing above expectations so far, but lost their last two games. First came a 0:1 defeat to Trinec and then a 3:4 loss to Kladno. Jiri Novotny has recently joined Czech Budejovice squad and another experienced player will definitely be useful. The most successful duo is Lukáš Pech and Milan Gulaš, both players have their best years behind them, but this year they are performing impressively and both are in the top ten in scoring.
Zlin hockey players got their first three-point win of the season on Sunday, beating Kometa Brno 5:3. For the first time they managed to score more than four goals and it brought success right away. Slovak forward Tomáš Mikúš scored three points and is Zlin's most productive player with 3+11. His compatriot Peter Trška, one of the busiest players in the league, also scored a goal. He will be helped in defence by the fresh reinforcement from Latvia Roberts Mamčics, the big back should be very strong.
Ceske Budejovice won their last four matches against Zlin, in this year's extraliga season both teams faced each other in the third round, with Budejovice players winning 4:3. Ceske Budejovice are a completely changed team after last season, many new players came and it is very noticeable. Zlin, on the other hand, is at the bottom this year, the win against Brno was only their second, so a second win in a row is very unlikely.
