Premier League
Today we take a look at the English Premier League for the clash of the 21st round between Chelsea and Liverpool.
After a totally failed December, Chelsea are in 2nd place in Premier League with 42 points from 20 games. In these games, the home side have a score of 43:14. They are already 11 points behind the leader Manchester City, but the latter has played one match more. Chelsea have one point lead on Liverpool, but they have played one more game and can leapfrog Chelsea today. Chelsea's last five games have been 2-3-0 with a score of 8-5.
After 19 games, Liverpool are third in the table with 41 points. In these matches the visitors have scored 50:16. Liverpool are already 12 points behind first placed Manchester City, but they have played two games less. Chelsea, as mentioned above, are a point behind and have a game in hand. The last five games have been 3-1-1 for the visitors and the score is 7-4.
These teams have met once this season and it was a 1-1 draw. Well Liverpool can still regret now that they didn't make better use of the 45-minute powerplay.
Liverpool have the league's second best attack, scoring 2.5 goals per game and creating an extreme amount of chances in every game. On top of that, Chelsea have been conceding absolutely cheap goals lately and you may have also noticed the discrepancy between Lukaku and Tuchel. This media hyped topic will definitely not help Chelsea, plus it may point to a problem in the dressing room. Another huge problem for Chelsea is the missing of key defenders - Chilwell, Christensen and Reece James will be missing, Thiago Silva's start is in question, although it is possible he will start. Moreover, Liverpool's deadly attack will be complete, the midfield too, the only noticeable absence being the sidelined back Robertson. Another factor that, in my opinion, favours albeit tactical but offensive football is that a draw in this match solves absolutely nothing - it would only increase the lead of the leading Manchester City. Both teams need to take three points here to even stay in contention for the title. This game could well be the key to the season, as the team that loses will really only have a very theoretical chance of the title. Considering the current situation in Chelsea, the absences of the defenders, maybe also the absence of Lukaku, I'm choosing here a pick for +1.5 goals in the match from Liverpool, who will noticeably outplayed Chelsea.
My bet:
Total Goals - Liverpool: Over 1.5 @ 2.25 (bet365)
