CHALLENGER MEN - SINGLES: Santiago 3 (Chile), clay - Quarter-finals
This match will offer us a purely Argentine duel between Juan Manuel Cerundolo (102) and Sebastian Baez (138).
Cerundolo is a 19-year-old player and is currently at his ranking maximum. He has an impressive 44/20 score on clay this year and won his first ATP title at home in Buenos Aires in February. He added 3 more titles from challengers (Rome, Como, Banja Luka). Here he beat Lenz and Cachin in 3 sets.
Baez is a 20-year-old tennis player and is also at his maximum. He's 39/11 on clay this year and has also taken 3 challenger titles (Concepcion, Santiago, Zagreb) and hasn't turned another 3 finals appearances into a title. The last one right here, when he lost to Varillas in last week's final. This week he beat Peru's Alvarez without lost a set and compatriot Ficovich.
Both fighters have been on fire this year on clay, but Cerundolo is running a bit low after a tough season. In Lima, he retired against Ugo Carabelli in the quarterfinal and in the following tournament here in Santiago, he won a single game with Kicker last week. I expect Baez to be the one to celebrate the promotion, as he has been very convincing here this week as well.
Sebastien Baez to win @ 1.80 (bet365)
