CHALLENGER MEN - SINGLES: Barcelona (Spain), clay - 1/8-finals
Everything speaks for Popko here, from his ranking position (164.), to this year's results, to his current form. Last week he won the Challenger in Lisbon, he lost only 2 sets in the whole tournament, and for example he beat Gaston (111.) in 81 minutes. Popko has followed up on this year's good results, when he was in the final in Prague or in the semi-finals in Poznan and at home in Almaty. He also seems to have a taste here in Barcelona, as in the first round he beat easilly Lamasine (280.) 2:0.
Matteo Martineau is more of an ITF quality player, which corresponds to his current ranking of 352nd. He's more of an overachiever in Challengers and I wouldn't overrate his win over Polmans (159.) yesterday at all. The match was missing quality, both players struggled on serve... The Frenchman also had losses to Rosenkranz (486.), Trungelliti (197.) or Mazza in the last few weeks, of the better players this year, apart from Polmans, he has only beat Nava, and as I saw him yesterday, I don't think he has anything to beat the fired-up Popko.
H2H:
Martineau 1:2 Popko (24.05.21)
Dmitry Popko to win @ 1.44 (bet365)
