CHALLENGER MEN - SINGLES: Napoli (Italy), clay - 1/8-finals
This match will feature two home players, Andrea Vavassori (314) and Matteo Arnaldi (439).
Vavassori is a 26-year-old tennis player and the highest he has looked at is ranked 278th (February 2020). This year, he has mainly made his mark in doubles, winning 1 ATP (Cagliari) and 2 Challenger titles (Tulln, Lugano). However, he has also played a few singles tournaments recently and hasn't done badly at all. In Barletta, he made it through the qualifiers and beat Clarke and Mejia in the main event and fell to Tseng in the quartefinal. In Como he took it a bit far, qualifying over Sels and Agamenone and then beating Draper, Kuznetsov and Kovalik before losing to Moroni in the deciding set in SF (1:1). Here he faced Agamenon again and after losing the opening set he worked hard and turned the match around convincingly.
Arnaldi is a 20-year-old tennis player and is currently at his maximum. He has had several great results in the last few months. He played the final at home at the M25 in Casinaldo, where he fell to Agamenon, but in Bolzano he was undefeated and took his 1st title. In Eupen he played the final again, but Diaz Acosta was too strong for him. Last week he dominated the M25 tournament in Skopje without losing a set and won his 2nd title this year. Here he lost the opening set 2:6 to Giannessi, who retired at 1:3 in the second set.
Arnaldi has had a very tough schedule recently and it showed in his performance against Giannessi. Vavassori is currently doing well in singles and managed to challenge, for the second time in a short period, the excellent Agamenone (226.) this year. I expect him to have more physical and mental strength to beat his young countryman and advance.
Andrea Vavassori to win @ 1.61 (bet365)
