Coach Steffen Baumgart's men made up for the deficit a week ago in Mainz, where they took a point for a 1-1 draw, but extended their winless streak to five league games (0-3-2), so they dropped to the bottom half of the table. While Cologne have closed the gap on their opponents recently, it's usually the other way around, failing to hold the lead in four of the six draws - the most in the competition (along with Frankfurt and Bielefeld). This time the "Goats" will face in a Rhineland derby against Borussia Mönchengladbach, where a draw hasn't been since September 2014, but the historical record favours Die Fohlen, who have won 47% of their competitive duels (59-22-44). Moreover, Gladbach are coming into form and have come up empty in only one of their last seven Bundesliga games (4-2-1), coming within three points of the Champions League places they would like to return to. But they need to improve in away games to achieve that goal - they have won only one of their six games away and three of their four defeats have come by a goal.
The derby is unpredictable, but as in six of the previous eight duels, we could see goals on both sides.
H2H:
Gladbach 1:2 Cologne
Cologne 1:3 Gladbach
Gladbach 2:1 Cologne
Prediction:
Over 2.5 Goals and Both Teams to Score @ 2.0 (bet365)
