CHALLENGER MEN - SINGLES: Knoxville (USA), hard (indoor) - 1/8-finals
Blaz Rola and Daniel Altmaier will play in the 1/8-finals of the indoor challenger in Knoxville, USA. I favour Altmaier in the match.
The 31-year-old Slovenian Rola is already one of the most experienced players, but he is primarily a clay-court player. He hasn't been doing well indoors, his career score is 38/40 and then this year 3/6. He came here with a streak of 5 losses in a row, the last time he won at the end of August in the US open qualification. But he managed to knock out Thai Son Kwiatkowski in two sets in the first round here.
The 23-year-old German Altmaier could be described as one of the comets of this season, already just outside the top 100 at 105th. While he has also played the most clay, he is a much more universal player. He is making his indoor debut this year, beating Adam Walton in two sets in the first round.
Perhaps a bit of an unusual matchup for an American indoor, neither is the prototypical tennis player for this environment, I'll still give Altmaier a shot here. He's playing his first indoor tournament this year and had a very easy draw here to warm up, but form-wise he should be much better than Rola. He almost qualified for the US open, but didn't make the last step and has since won here. He's never done well indoors and I don't think he's gonna be a good match for Daniel.
The players met once, in 2019 on clay in Como, Altmaier won 2:1 in sets.
My bet:
Daniel Altmaier @ 1.53 (bet365)
