RUSSIA: KHL
I favor Magnitogorsk here.
Magnitogorsk after being knocked out by Osmek in the quarterfinals of the playoffs last season rebuilt their team quite a bit this year. They have a few new names and their play has been pretty good. For example Leipsic, last season CSKA (before KHL he plays in NHL), Maillet also NHL and many others.
I was quite surprised by their performance against Yekaterinburg, when Magnitogorsk won 6:2. There was quite a bit of penalties in the game, so Magnitogorsk tried their shorthanded and especially their power play. They defended six of their seven shorthanded opportunities and used two power plays with goals out of five total.
Nur Sultan is the opposite of Magnitogorsk. They also have a rebuilt team, but it's not going well so far. They have a new goalkeeper, but he is very young (22 y.o.) and has almost no experience in KHL. They lost their first game of the season against Ufa by a big difference, 1:5. I don't expect them to improve, I think they will lose again.
Otherwise, I'm not impressed with the team Nur Sultan has this year. Apart from the three Canadians on the first line, I don't see any other major mainstays in the team.
H2H:
BAR 3:5 MAG
MAG 5:1 BAR
BAR 4:2 MAG
BAR 1:2 MAG
MAG 1:2 BAR (after overtime)
My bet:
Magnitogorsk @ 2.20
