ATP - SINGLES: Indian Wells (USA), hard - 1/16-finals
Shapovalov is a Canadian tennis player who is seen as a great talent, but he hasn't been doing so well in recent weeks. He has played four tournaments on the North American hard courts, of which he has twice dropped out in the first round. During this period he won only three matches against clay players Delbonis and Carballes and American Fritz (ATP 39), which was his biggest victory. He lost to Tiafoe, Paire, Harris, Norrie and got beaten 4:6, 0:6 in the Laver Cup by Medvedev. Here in Indian Wells he had a rest in the 1st round and in the 2nd round, Pospisil retired the match after three games.
Karatsev is a Russian tennis player who had a great start to the year and hasn't played so well in the last few weeks, but still managed to keep a good level. He played four tournaments in North America on hard courts and one more in Kazakhstan. He came out better than Shapovalov. He won against Munar, Thompson, Delbonis and Hurkacz (ATP 12), which was his biggest victory and proof to me that he is getting back into form. He claimed this win at the last tournament in San Diego, where he then lost in the quarterfinals in three sets to a good Dimitrov.
