AFCON 2022

Senegal, as the home team, is in great form.It narrowly missed out on qualifying for the play-offs at the 2018 World Cup, dominated Group 2 of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers, reached the final of the Cosafa Cup (a tournament run by the South African Football Association), easily qualified for APN 2021 and is defending its 2nd place finish from APN 2019. With the football stars like Mané, Koulibaly and co, they are looking for their first ever championship title, which they are missing out on.

Senegal, ranked 20th in the FIFA world rankings, is certainly a big favourite for this match. Players like Mané (Liverpool), Koulibaly (Napoli), Mendy (Chelsea), Sarr (Watford), Gueye (PSG), Diallo (PSG) and more, most of the team play in the top European leagues in Europe and it should be seen in the result of this match.

Goalkeeper Mendy, who tested positive for COVID-19, will miss the 1st game of the tournament.

Zimbabwe is ranked 121st in the FIFA world rankings. Of the players who will play in this championship, among the more well-known players who are active in Europe are striker Kadewere (Lyon), defender Zemura (Bournemouth) and then the squad is made up of players mainly from lesser-known leagues.

In addition, Zimbabwe have struggled up front in recent matches, scoring just once in their last four games, so the paper favourite for the match could win with clean sheet at the start of tournament.

My bet:
